What are human rights?
All human beings are equal in dignity and rights and are entitled to all human rights without any distinction.
Human rights can be regarded as describing what you should not do to another human being and what should be done for every human being and therefore cover all areas of society.
The rights are described in a number of international conventions. There is a Discrimination Act in Sweden. According to the Discrimination Act, nobody should be subjected to discrimination on grounds of sex, transgender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation or age.
The responsibility of the public sector for human rights
The public sector has a responsibility to protect, satisfy and promote the rights. In order to do this, there must be awareness and knowledge among public sector employees on different levels.
The responsibility of Region Västra Götaland
All inhabitants are entitled to the best possible health, medical care, education, culture and labour market. Consequently, this means that Region Västra Götaland has a responsibility to always work towards the realization of these rights. Accessible public transport is an important part of this work.

In 2011 the Human Rights Committee was formed in order to clarify the responsibility of Region Västra Götaland. The Committee shall support the development of systematic work for human rights. The aim is to promote the opportunities of all human beings to participate in the society on equal terms in Västra Götaland.
