Region Västra Götaland participates actively in several regional organisations and collaborations in Europe. In these organisations, our regional politicians highlight issues that are important to Västra Götaland. Some of these issues are EU’s regional policy, maritime and environmental affairs and communications and lifelong learning.

Assembly of European Regions (AER)

AER is a political collaborative organisation for European regions. The organisation has 270 members from 33 countries. The focus areas for the organisation are economy and regional development, social issues and health care, culture, education and youth.

Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR)

CPMR is a political collaborative organisation for the peripheral coastal regions of Europe. The organisation has 161 members from 28 countries. Region Västra Götaland is an active member of the North Sea Commission and a member of the Baltic Sea Commission.

North Sea Commission (NSC)

The North Sea Commission is a cooperation platform for regions around the North Sea, consisting of 34 member regions from eight countries around the North Sea. The mission is to further partnerships between regional authorities which face the challenges and opportunities presented by the North Sea.

Region Västra Götaland is president of the North Sea Commission through Kerstin Brunnström (S) and holds the North Sea Commission Secretariat.

Baltic Sea Commission (BSC)

The Baltic Sea Commission consists of 21 member regions from six countries around the Baltic Sea. The mission is to strenghten the cooperation between the member regions around the Baltic Sea.

European Association of Regional and Local Authorities of Lifelong Learning (EARLALL)

EARLALL is a political collaborative organisation that currently consists of 23 municipalities and regions in Europe. The aim is to cooperate on and influence European education policies.

Sweden Emilia-Romagna Network (SERN)

SERN is a network consisting of approximately 54 member regions from Emilia-Romagna in Italy and municipalities and regions in Sweden. The aim of the network is to promote exchange of experience and initiate and support innovative collaboration projects. In Västra Götaland there are about 10 members.

European Network of Cities and Regions for the Social Economy (REVES)

REVES is a European network aiming to promote the social economy. Its members are regions, municipalities and other participants from the social economy in 13 EU countries along with Morocco and Russia.

Environmental Conference of the Regions of Europe (ENCORE)

ENCORE is a conference network for “regional environment ministers” which focuses on sustainable development and current environmental issues. ENCORE strives to influence environmental policy and legislation in the EU and a conference is held every two years. About a hundred European are members of ENCORE.

WHO/Regions for Health Network

This network currently involves WHO’s European office and 29 regions in Europe. The network strives for equality in health in, and between, European regions. They work for this goal by collaborating for methods for implementation of political objectives in health equality.

European Health Management Association (EHMA)

EHMA is an association dealing with development matters in health and medical care at the European level. It involves 200 members from both public and private sectors in Europe.

ERRIN is an EU network consisting of roughly 90 members from European regions. The organisations aim is to create collaborations and projects within the field of research and technology.

ERY is a network consisting of eleven regions that are working to strengthen young people’s participation and influence. They pursue this goal by exchanging experience and creating meeting places for young people and for international projects.
