International outlook and relation building are integral parts of the Region's daily activities. The principles for Region Västra Götaland’s international work are formulated in an international policy and the Regional Council annually adopts an international action plan.

Region Västra Götaland’s International Policy

Västra Götaland is being increasingly influenced by the surrounding world. Economic integration in the world, streams of refugees, EU directives and ordinances, mobility of goods, services, people and capital in the European single market, and the geographical situation with a border and a coastline are just a few of the external factors that influence the prerequisites for Region Västra Götaland’s assignments.

Region Västra Götaland’s role as a leading player in regional efforts, as the authority responsible for healthcare services and as a major employer, requires both good knowledge of the sorrounding world and the ability to safeguard its interests on the international arena.

Region Västra Götaland’s international policy was adopted by the Regional Council on February 3, 2009 and applies to all committees and boards in Region Västra Götaland.

The Regional Executive Board

The Regional Executive Board is overall responsible for international relations. Region Västra Götaland also appoints political representatives to the organizations and networks in which the region is member.
